High Winds Cause Wires Down In Pound Ridge

While you where sleeping, members of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to two calls for wires down and burning. The first call was located at the intersection of Trinity Pass and Westchester Avenue. Units arrived on location and noticed wires in the road, notified NYSEG. Upon further investigation members noticed the top half of the telephone pole to have snapped due to the high winds and a tree that had fallen on the wires some distance up the road. The road was blocked off and units returned. Shortly after going back in service members responded to a second call at Salem Rd for a similar issue. This time a wire was down in a driveway causing a small brush fire. Units had to wait for NYSEG to cut the power to the line, to provide suppression efforts for the small brush fire. NYSEG arrived within minutes of our notification as they were headed to the Trinity Pass incident (Lucky for us). Units returned to service at approx. 02:30 and where finally able to get some sleep. We would like to remind everyone if they see wires on the ground to call 911 and report it. DO NOT drive over them and DO NOT by any means, touch them. When dealing with downed wires treat everything as live!
