Brush Fire in Pound Ridge
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Captain James M. Dodge III
November 15, 2016

The Pound Ridge Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire Monday, November 14 at 9:17PM. Upon arrival a large brush fire was gaining ground given the dry, (at the time) somewhat windy conditions. The fire was caused by a tree that had fallen on primary power lines creating an arc igniting ground vegetation. The fire burned roughly an acre of land. Some of the challenges we faced were the terrain, the inability to move apparatus, time of day, and the location of the water. MA-21 and Engine 111 were used for supplying the hand-lines (booster reel and forestry hose) and Engine 112 for equipment including one of our portable pumps. Using the portable pump, firefighters were able to secure a static water source.

The fire was extinguished and all personnel/apparatus cleared the scene at 12:52AM.
