On June 8, 2017, Hermann “Fred” Roth of Vero Beach, FL. left us to join his Lord after a long illness.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and well loved by all who knew him.

He was born on September 10, 1937 in Niebelsbach, Germany and came to this country at the age of 18. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and became an American citizen while stationed in Hawaii.

He was member of the Pound Ridge, NY Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years as well as a member of the Pound Ridge Board of Fire Commissioners. He served as past President of the Westchester Association of Fire Districts and was a Board member of the New York State Association of Fire Districts.

He worked as a stonesetter of fine jewelry, a trade he learned in Germany and crafted many exquisite pieces of custom jewelry over his long career.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Rosalie Quade Roth, three children, Margaret Roth, Christian Roth (Kainoa) and Erica Dignan as well as five grandchildren.

He is survived by two sisters, Frieda Meister and Hilde Rosswag (Deiter) and several nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as a brother Al Roth and sister Margaret Roth Hoffmann.

A funeral mass will be held on June 21st at 10 AM at Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach.

There will also be a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church in Bedford on July 15 at 10 AM followed by burial at the Pound Ridge Cemetery. The Pound Ridge Fire Department will host a reception to follow the services at the cemetery.

Freddie was extraordinarily bright, extraordinarily knowledgeable, but above all, perhaps, he was an extraordinarily kind man. There is a large supply of people to whom he offered a good word, assistance, and encouragement when needed. A generous man, generous with himself; I am unable to even visualize the idea of anyone being an enemy of Fred's. I doubt if there ever were any. He was a lovely person, with a smile for everyone, and always something positive to say. Our sympathy and thoughts are with Rosalie, and his family.
