Each year, like most every other fire department in the area, The Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department holds its inspection dinner the last Saturday in April. All members are all assigned to a truck spending the weeks prior cleaning. The trucks are then judged against each other the night of the inspection by the Westchester County Parade Judges (http://www.wcpja.com), the same fellows that judge the department when we march at our parades. The Department's dinner was held on Saturday, April 24. The winning apparatus this year was Tanker 3 (grumble grumble).
The Department's current members attend in uniform. Recognized at the dinner; our past chiefs, chiefs of other departments from both New York and in Connecticut, Fire District's Board of Commissioners from Pound Ridge as well as those from other fire districts, and some local dignitaries. We had chiefs there from Mt Kisco, Bedford Hills, Somers, New Canaan, Katonah, Vista and others in attendance.
Firefighter of the year was Alex Raftopoulos.
The dinner is a tradition in most volunteer departments and gives us a chance each year to thank our members for their hard work, as well as thank our neighboring departments for working with us and for the privilege of working with them.
